Registered as the Empire Rose Stakes, named after Empire Rose, the champion mare who won the 1988 LKS MacKinnon Stakes – Melbourne Cup double, this race has had a range of sponsors over its short journey.

The Myer Classic, is a Victoria Racing Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race held under Weight for Age conditions, for fillies and mares aged three-years-old and upwards, over a distance of 1600 metres, held at Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia during the VRC Spring Carnival on Victoria Derby day
The most prominent winners have been DIVINE MADONNA (2007), who won the Cantala Stakes, Queen of the Turf Stakes and Toorak Hep (2007) and TYPHOON TRACY (2009) who won the Coolmore Classic (2009), Futurity Stakes, Queen of the Turf Stakes (2010) and twice won the CF Orr Stakes (2010, 11).
